USS Remora (SS-487)

May She Rest In Peace

After about 2 years of research, I finally found out what happened to our old boat.

Upon comissioning on 3 January 1946, she served the US Navy until her decomissioning on 29 October 1973 after proudly serving for 27 years.

At which time, she was transferred to the Hellenic Navy and recommissioned as KATSONIS (S-115). She continued her service for freedom until her decomissioning in 1999 completing another 26 years of reliable dedication to the seas of the world.

At this time she was used as target practice for their surface ships and submarines. She could not be sunk. So they towed her to port where she was sold for scrap. (Pretty hearty, huh?)

So, in her life span of about 53 years, she had lived a full life. May she rest in peace.
